The associates of Arbor Sana offer individual counseling for children (ages 5+), adolescents, and adults struggling with mental health, wellness, education, spiritual, and career-related concerns.

When to Come for Individual Counseling

Contrary to popular belief, individual counseling isn’t only beneficial when things are seemingly falling apart. Individual counseling can be preventative, all the same as it can be responsive. Sometimes it is helpful when you are faced with a new negative or positive stressor, such as entering a new phase of your life (e.g., accepting a promotion at work, ending a troubled long-term relationship, being diagnosed with a chronic illness, etc.). Individual counseling endeavors to assist you in formulating and meeting your goals and objectives pertaining to your mental health, wellness, education, and career. 

How Can Individual Counseling Help?

Individual counseling will help you explore and gain insight into the parameters of the concerns you face and assist you in finding the best ways to take action toward managing, coping with, or resolving difficult situations. While in individual counseling, you may work to change behaviors or thought patterns that contribute to your difficulties or find constructive ways to deal with a situation that is beyond your personal control. You and your counselor work as a team to help address your goals. At Arbor Sana, we believe that clients must fully explore and gain insight into the nature of their concerns before taking any action. This is because any desired changes will be challenging to maintain without first understanding the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the presenting issues that bring you to individual counseling.

Our Individual Counseling Process

Your first step is to call us to schedule your initial appointment. We work hard to pair you with a therapist that we believe will be the best fit for you and your current concerns.

Your first session provides an opportunity for you to build rapport with your therapist and provide them with some background about yourself and the reasons you are seeking counseling. In addition, they will be able to answer your questions regarding services, confidentiality, and what to expect in therapy. With your best interest in mind, you will collaboratively determine what areas of focus will benefit you the most.

At the end of your first session, if you decide to move forward and work with the therapist, you will schedule your next appointment. During your second appointment, you will work with your therapist to set goals and objectives for your overall therapy experience and then begin working together toward achieving them.
